Message from Counilmember Tom LaBonge

Regarding The New Traffic Signal at Hillhurst and Finley:

Dear Los Feliz Friends,

There has been some concern expressed regarding the removal of the uncontrolled crosswalk at Clarissa Avenue when the new traffic signal at Hillhurst Avenue & Finley Avenue becomes operational. In addition, there is concern regarding the loss of parking metered spaces on the west-side of Hillhurst Avenue next to Citibank. I have consulted with the LA Department of Transportation on this matter and received the following explanation:

1. The marked crosswalk would be less than 300 feet within the new signalized intersection at Finely Avenue.
2. Using the signalized intersection would provide a more positive safe and controlled crossing.
3. One block south of Clarissa Avenue is also signalized at Franklin Avenue.
4. The removal of the crosswalk would provide 4 additional curb parking spaces where the new left turn pocket has eliminated six parking spaces.

Change is always challenging but I believe that the ultimate loss of 2 parking spaces in exchange for this long awaited traffic signal will improve the Los Feliz Village area making it a more pedestrian-friendly place.

Thank you for your patience in seeing this much needed public safety improvement come to fruition and for working with me to make your community a safer place to live, work, and shop.

Recent News

- Stop sign at Rodney and Kingswell has been installed after nearly three years of effort by a tenacious stakeholder, GGPNC Transportaion committee and CD4 staff.  Thanks to All.

-Traffic light @ Finley and Hillhurst is APPROVED!l. This will make that intersection much safer and will most likely help control the speed of traffic on Hillhurst.  Construction completed!

-Congratulations to newly elected GGPNC board members. We look forward to more active involvement regarding the Transportation issues in an around Los Feliz.

-With the help of Tom LaBonge's office and Film LA, film productions will no longer be able to acquire permits on Welch Place past the area where the wall of the Masonic Temple ends. This is a great victory for the residents of Welch Place as the parking will no longer be compromised and the pre school, All Children Great and Small, will no longer be at risk for traffic issues due to film crews.
